Stubbington Cat Charity

As reported in the local Hampshire press this week, the sun may be shining but it’s raining cats and kittens at one Hampshire animal shelter. Despite being one of the country’s biggest, the Stubbington Ark in Fareham is struggling to cope with the number of stray and unwanted felines coming through the cat-flap.

Since the middle of June the shelter has had to deal with a barrage of dumped cats and kittens, leaving the Ark full to capacity with 160 unloved cats. Staff believe that a big part of the problem is the failure of some owners to microchip their pet, so when cats arrive at the shelter they cannot trace the owner.

To date, the Ark has 55 stray cats which could have been reunited with their owner for the sake of a chip, freeing up 55 cat cabins that are in big demand. Other problems adding to the flood of felines are owners who refuse to neuter their pets and owners who fail to make sure that their cats are being properly looked after when they go on holiday.
