Free Bank Holiday Transport

More local news from Dibben and Dibben. As reported yesterday in the local Hampshire press all bus journeys within Southampton will be totally free this bank holiday weekend. As the city of Southampton gets ready for one of its busiest weekends for many years the city council has invested almost £40,000 so that all bus journeys are completely free. The journeys will be free for anyone as long as they start and finish within the city’s boundaries.

More than 12,000 extra vehicles are expected to cause the heaviest congestion seen in the city since the opening of Ikea earlier this year. With nine cruise ships – and almost 50,000 ship passengers – passing through Southampton city within just 48 hours, council bosses want residents off the roads and to leave their cars at home. The council has teamed up with Bluestar, First and Unilink and Black Velvet Travel to provide free bus travel until 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
