Charity Challenge For Hampshire Grandfather

As reported in the local press this weekend, a long and hard trek from one end of the country to the other was not enough for one intrepid Hampshire grandfather who has cranked up the challenge to raise around £10,000 for charity. will not only Not only will Steve Hughes, 54, be walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats but he has chosen a route that will also have him climbing four mountains and treking across remote moors and peat bogs.

Steve, of Waltham Chase ,is carrying a 40lb rucksack, sleeping rough and battling the elements for most of his journey, only stopping to refill his water from various streams along the way. It is planned that he will only sleep in any bed and breakfast accommodation once a week to wash his clothes and shower.

The expedition, which is expected to take about four months, is being carried out in memory of his father, songwriter Phil, who died of cancer earlier this year and to celebrate the arrival of his first grandchild. Steve’s brother Paul is also suffering from lymphoma.

Go for it Steve !
