Dallas Comes To Eastleigh

As reported recently in the local Hampshire press an oil company is launching a new bid to drill for “black gold” in Hampshire. Northern Petroleum isreportedly in advanced negotiations with the owner of a secret site in which they will erect a 118ft rig and drill 24 hours a day for several weeks. This latest move has sparked majorconcern that the rig could be a blot on the landscape and cause traffic chaos for all the local residents. However oil bosses have refused to reveal the exact location of the site, but have apparently confirmed it was within 400m of homes on the outskirts of Hedge End.

It has been suggested that they believe the homeowners are living above a huge oil field holding up to 30 million barrels which is potentially worth millions of pounds. The development comes four years after the firm’s first attempt to drill for oil in a field close to Woodhouse Lane was scuppered by a huge public outcry.

The firm’s exploration and technical director Graham Heard was reported as saying he was confident the patch of land, north of Hedge End, would get planning permission from Hampshire County Council.
