Hampshire Sailors

The round Britain and Ireland sailing record has been totally smashed by a team of sailors from Hampshire. The crew, which is all female crossed the finish line just off Ventnor on the Isle of Wight just after 9am this morning. The team, which also includes members from Hamble , beat the previous record by around 16 hours. They completed the voyage in six days, 11 hours and 30 minutes.

The crew, sailed around 2,500 nautical miles in order to complete their successful attempt. The boat sailed back into the English channel yesterday where it hit light winds and had been expected back at the start line anytime after 8am this morning.

Crew member Dee Caffari, who became the first person to sail solo non-stop both ways around the world earlier this year, now has another accolade to her ever growing career achievements.
