Emergency Services Rescue Foal

More local news from in and around the the South Hampshire area from Dibben and Dibben as Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to rescue a foal stuck in a muddy river bank last week. Animal Rescue Specialist, Watch Manager Jim Green was alerted to attend the incident at Bridge Street, Titchfield, with supporting crews from Fareham and Havant fire stations.

The six month old filly, which weighed approximately 200kg, was stuck in the mud on the side of the river bank. The animal was in distress and not used to human contact or wearing a headcollar. Therefore, in the interest of the safety of the crew and the foal's own welfare a vet from Animed Veterinary Practice was requested to attend and sedate the foal before the rescue commenced.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has a team of four Animal Rescue Specialists. The dedicated team are leading the way in animal rescue work in the UK, with other fire and rescue service's learning from their example. Their role is not solely responding to incidents, they are also heavily involved in education and the development of new rescue techniques, as well as promoting animal welfare.
