Southampton Beer Festival
It’s estimated that around 13,600 pints of beer will be consumed during the festival. But despite the country being in the grip of one of the worst recessions in living memory, organisers say ticket sales have gone through the roof.
Rob Whatley, an organiser at Southampton Beer Festival, who has been a member of the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) for more than 30 years, said: “Ticket sales have been better this year than ever before.

Verderers in support for New Forest 30mph limit
Following discussions in committee, official verderer Oliver Crosthwaite Eyre came down firmly on the side of a reduction in the 40 limit, which has been in place forest-wide since 1992. He said: “Having a universal speed limit of 30mph across the whole of the forest makes very good sense.
“The government's own statistics show that the 10mph difference between 30 and 40 hugely reduces the risk of accidents.
“Another benefit would be the removal of the multitude of ugly and rather pointless new signs that have had to be erected all over the forest because of the different speed limits in most of our villages, sometimes only yards apart.

Tips On Moving House
If, as part of your purchase price there are items that have been included it is a good idea to write yourself an inventory check-list. The inventory will detail the condition of the property and any of the contents that you have purchased as part of the deal. It is really very important that you are present when this is being checked in order to ensure that both parties agree with the observations made.
Although this may seem very formal it might be a good idea to sign the inventory if you are happy with the details noted and request a copy for your own records. If items are included within the purchase price remember to check on the quantity and indeed the condition of these items on arrival. Make sure they are what you expected. If there are any problems – it is vital to let the other party know straight away – try to settle this between you and hopefully not get your solicitor involved.
There are also a number of things that you can do prior to the day you move in. In an ideal world you should have your contract signed and have four weeks to prepare for the move. Unfortunately these days due to delays in surveys, mortgage offers, or with your purchasers or further down the chain sellers often don't know for sure if the move is actually taking place until what seems like the last minute.
In an ideal situation these are the arrangements you should make in your countdown to moving:
One month prior to your move:
Make a file to collect all documents in connection with the move in one place – this will really help you in the long term and is good practice for good housekeeping. Ask for a price quotation for your completion date from two or three reputable removal firms. Also get written confirmation that the removal firm you have chosen is fully insured.
If you are currently living in rented accommodation make sure you let your existing landlord know you are moving out
Contact telephone company to arrange for installation of phone line at new property. If you are having a local move it might be possible to retain your existing number, have you checked on the availability of broadband at your new property.
Inform telephone, electric and gas companies and arrange to have meters read. This is very important. Most of the utility companies now have a department that deal superficially with house moves.
Two weeks prior to your move:
Inform the Post Office of new postal address and arrange for redirection of post after completion. A lot of people forget to do this and is the boom of many new house movers.
Mail out change of address cards and don't forget to include bank, doctor, dentist, optician and vet. If your moving out of your existing area you will need to register with a new doctors and indeed dentist. Do not be surprised if these sometimes have waiting lists or if there are forms to complete in order to supply this information.
If you follow so of these tips then as the big day approaches you will have less to worry about.

A Potted History Of Stubbington
At the start of the 20th century, the village still consisted of just a few dozen cottages and farms. By 1939, the population had risen to around 2,500 and a number of small shops had opened surrounding the village green. This remains the central focus of the village to the present day, with a war memorial situated on the central village green.
The 'Crofton Old Church' at Crofton is one of the oldest known inhabited sites in the area. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book and it is thought to date back to the reign of King Alfred in the 9th Century. It is believed to have caught the eye of Samuel Pepys in 1662 and was extensively renovated during the 13th Century. A new church (Holy Rood) was built in Stubbington which took over the function of Crofton Church in 1878.
In 1922 a wooden War Memorial was built to commemorate those from Stubbington and Hill Head who fell in the First World War. Their names were carved into the roof of the memorial although over the years they have been worn away. The Memorial takes the form of a shelter over the village pump, and today it is one of few pre-war structures standing in the vicinity of Stubbington Village Centre. The names carved into the roof of the memorial have now been cleaned and can be seen clearly.

Tips On How To Sell Your House Quickly
Ensure the carpets and floor coverings of your property are kept neat and clean. If need be employ the services of professional company to clean your carpets. A bright clean carpet will lift the whole mood of a room – they they are dirty and grubby this will bring down the tone of a room and make it feel smaller.
Minimalise your kitchen, put away any electrical items, spare jars pots and pans. Less clutter means more space. It goes without saying that a less cluttered house has a greater chance of selling that a house that appears to be cluttered. De-clutter your cupboards, take out any unwanted items – again cupboards with a little room to spare in them with appear bigger than they are.
If you have large expanses of wall try hanging a picture or two – this will do two things. Firstly it will breakup a plain area and secondly and more importantly it will allow you to introduce some extra colour into a room without the need to re-decorate. However make sure that the picture is fairly mainstream – strange art may put off a buyer straight away.
It is vital that all windows are spotlessly clean. Again you may need to bring in a professional company to do this for you. Rooms can be given the appearance of being larger if they are filled with natural light. In addition natural light gives a room a much warmer feel to it and will make it more 'softer' and have a homely ambiance.
In show business, they say never work children and animals. Selling a house is the same. Make sure that all the children's toys are put away and as hard as it maybe ensure that the children's rooms are very clean and tidy. If you have pets ensure that the litter trays are clean and most importantly that they do not smell. If you do have pets ensure that your furniture does not have any pet hairs on it.
Sometimes the way to overcome any unwanted smells is to buy and burn some scented candles or sometimes incense (but make sure that the smell from these is not overpowering). Another good trick is to put freshly cut flowers in a room. Not only will this give off a very pleasant fragrance but also will again add colour to a room. If you do place flowers in a room remember that they should always look fresh – never leave limp or dying flowers in a room.
One last tip is to remove or reduce down the number of photographs you may have on show. It is vital that any prospective buyer can imagine that the house is theirs. With too many of your favourite or personal photographs on display this is going to be hard for a buyer to do. You want them to feel that they could move in straight away and whilst it may seem a little hard to de-personalise your home – it really could make the difference in making a quick sale or leaving your house on the market for a very long time.

As an island Nation, the sea has always played a major role in Britain’s history.

Estate Agent In Fareham - Hampshire Highlight : Alresford Watercress Festival
The county of Hampshire is a unique mixture of rolling lush hills, tranquil chocolate box style villages and ancient woodland, combined with vibrant cities and buzzing market towns. A rich cultural heritage, varied coastline and unspoilt countryside makes Hampshire a ‘top of the list’ place to live.
This months see the annual Watercress Festival in the sleepy village of Alresford.
Alresford and watercress go way back. Wild watercress has been picked and eaten locally for centuries, yet it wasn’t until the introduction of the railway in 1865 that it reached a far wider population. Today the mineral-rich spring waters of the River Arle still offer perfect growing conditions and the watercress beds around Alresford are one of the country’s main areas of production. Hailed as a ’superfood’, the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in watercress are recognised alongside its tasty versatility.
Now in its 6th year, the Alresford Watercress Festival has grown from its humble beginnings to attract over 10,000 visitors. Held in the town streets between 10am and 4pm, the food festival draws together both the local community and food lovers from far and wide. One of the main highlights is the street calvalcade at 10.30am with jazz musicians, Morris dancers and local school children accompanying the Watercress King and Queen atop a horse and cart, distributing the first of the season’s watercress harvest to festival goers.
Throughout the day, cookery demonstrations will star several award winning Hampshire chefs, including executive chef Andy MacKenzie, (Hampshire’s Food and Drink Chef of the Year) and head pastry chef Mark Tilling (2008 British Chocolate Master), both from Winchester’s Lainston House Hotel. They will be joined by Cresson Creative’s Jennifer Laing, Gold Star winner in the prestigious national Great Taste Awards 2008.
A huge Hampshire Farmers Market and many other local food and drink businesses will showcase locally produced foods. You can also enjoy a large arts and crafts market and display of vintage cars. There are activities for children of all ages, including cookery and circus skills workshops and face painting, and everyone can enjoy the delights of the many street entertainers and musicians. You can take a tour around one of the local watercress farms to find out more about this local superfood, and visit Alresford’s historical Fulling Mill, Eel House and medieval Soke Bridge on a short walk along the River Arle.

The role of an Estate Agent
The role of the estate agent can be summarised as follows. The estate agent is the link between the buyer and the seller. The agent will negotiate an agreement of sale acceptable to both parties. An offer to purchase is drafted by the estate agent. This must be signed by the agent, the buyer and the seller. Once signed it becomes a legal binding contract of sale. A copy of this document must be attached to the loan application form. For this service, the estate agent charges a fee or commission paid by the seller. Do not allow estate agents to pressurise you into purchasing a property. This is an important decision you have to make, take your time looking for the right house.
There are a number of professional bodies within the UK for Estate Agents. One of these associations is The National Association of Estate Agent. The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) is the UK’s leading professional body for estate agency. Its 10,000 members practice across all aspects of property both in the UK and overseas, including residential and commercial sales and letting, property management, business transfer, auctioneering and land.
Founded in 1962 by estate agent and entrepreneur Raymond Andrews, the NAEA was established with the goal of upholding good practice and high professional standards in UK estate agency. This struck a chord with the industry at a time when there was little representation for estate agents and has allowed the Association to grow phenomenally over the years.
Today, its key roles include providing help and guidance for property professionals across a broad spectrum of disciplines while continually campaigning to make the property market more efficient and user-friendly for the home buying and selling public.
As a leading player in the UK property industry, the NAEA offers significant benefits to both estate agents and consumers.
